I just wanted to let everyone no that after lots of reading here I finally got the guts to try the oil pan gasket challenge. I didnt have to remove the trans neither. I started on top by taking the intercooler boots off on both sides, disconnected the batteries, removed BHAF, removed the valve cover, drained some of the antifreeze, removed top radiator hose, removed windshield washer bottle, removed bolts from fan shroud and let hang on fan. I then went underneath and removed exhaust bolts, drained oil, loosened trans mount, loosened just about all the way but did not remove motor mount bolts, removed brackets for auto trans lines from oil pan and removed most of the oil pan bolts while it was sitting there. I then jacked the motor up with 2 bottle jacks at the front of the motor. On each side of the motor was a pretty good size flange that I used. I took my time jacking up nice and slow until it was all the way up. I then cut a 2x4 at 10" and another one at 3. 5". I used the longer on from the top of the front rear to the bottom of motor mount and the short one I set inside of the motor mount saddle underneath the motor mount. I then took pressure off of the jacks to give more working room. I then removed remaining pan bolts and let pan sit on crossmember so that you can see inside to remove the pickup tube. There is also 2 bolts on driver side to help hold pickup tube that you need to remove and then just let tube lay in the pan and then slide the pan out towards the back. I really didnt have much problem getting it to slide out. Cleaned everything real good and reinstalled everything in reverse order. Oil pickup tube and pan bolts get torqued at 18 FTLBS. This was done on a 2000 4x4 auto by the way. It took me and a friend about 4 hours to do this start to finish and wasnt real difficult. I hope this helps anyone trying this as I couldnt find much info on this procedure.

Well guys I have to be honest and say that I still have a little leak. I didnt use any silicone or anything so I will try again tonight with some sort of silicone. I am going to shoot for about 2-3 hours tonight since I dont have to figure things out just do it !!! I will keep you informed.

Well I found the source of the leak after close inspection after removing pan. The pan has a crack in it near the third bolt hole from the back on the drivers side. Anybody happen to know an approximte price on a replacement pan. I am sure I probaly can only get it at Cummins or dealer.

I dont have a TIG welder and my welding skills are very limited. I think by the time I pay someone to weld it I may be better off just getting a new pan and get the truck back on the road a little quicker and I really want this to be the last time I do this!!!!
