Robin and I have read through all of the input regarding the other forum, thought about and discussed it, and have decided the changes we are going to make. First, the decisions were based primarily on the fact that the primary purpose of this website is to provide an open forum for the positive exchange of information regarding our trucks and to give members more satisfaction in the ownership of their truck. The other forum is here to offer a place to post stuff "Not diesel related? Has nothing to do with the TDR or the TDRoundtable. " While the other forum does contribute to the camaraderie of the membership and good information and humor is passed along, it does not contribute to the primary purpose of the site. Secondly, it was based on the input given to us by the users in several posts.

There were some users requesting an "Other other" forum and in keeping with the thought that the primary purpose for the site is about trucks that isn't something we want to do. The other forum that is here is the only one that will be here. If you do not like some of the posts in the other forum then just skip over them.

We are going to remove the "Top Poster" and "Top Thread Starter" line from the forum statistics to remove any incentive they might garner to post excessively. Also, posts in the Other forum will no longer contribute to post counts. I'm also going to do a recount of the posts with the other forum posts removed so that if I have to do a recount in the future there won't be questions at that time as to what happened to peoples post counts.

Lastly, when you click on "View New Posts" or "Get Last Days" posts from the Other forum will not show up on those lists. If you wish to view new posts in the other forum and you use those functions then you will have to click on the other forum specifically - any posts that are new will be marked as such when you get there. We posted a poll on this and with 113 people voting roughly 60% didn't want to see the other posts in those options.

Out of my last 300 posts, 2/3 of my posts were in the Other Forum. If that's how I have posted all along, I will go from 2439 to 813. I'll still be in the top 100 Oo.

So does this mean I have to send the toaster back. :{

Thanks Guys, and Gals... maybe we can have some peace and quiet around here. ;)

You have again saved us from ourselves. :-laf

Well Done Robin and Steve

Now if the computer was just smart enough to search for 'only my subscribed forms' everything would be great.

The way it is now I get everything including all the 1st and 3rd generation information and all I really want MOST of the time is the second generation goodies

Oh well, maybe someday huh.

Doc, you will lose 786 posts, I'll lose 864. Just do a search with no subject, only your name and the other forum and you'll get the number. Sounds fine to me. Maybe that stupid word game sentence thing will end now.

Thanks illfem. . didn't think of trying it that way. No wonder I do most of my posting in Other :)

Doc

PS - Your trick was wrong, illfem. I dropped to 944 and I'm in the top 50 :) Bob Wagner beat out KatDiesel for second place.

The reason illflem's numbers didn't work is that he probably did a search with the results shown as threads instead of as posts. In that case if you had 4 posts on a single thread that would only count as one in the search whereas it would be 4 posts in the post count.

Post counts mean almost nothing, Your credibility from most of the members will be based on the quality of the information given about our trucks. Yes I do believe it is OK to have some fun in the process but information about our trucks is what this site is all about. I quit going to the live chat because most of the conversion was completely useless. JMO

I dont care about post counts and I dont see why they should bother anyone.

I kind of liked the way it was. Much easier to check "unread posts" and have it all there in front of you.

Now I have to specifically go to the other forum to see them.

It would be nice if we could have a custom setting in our user control panel to set it the way you really want it.

I dont read 24 valve forums, nor do I read the 3rd gen forum.

I myself would make it so that I dont see these when checking the "unread posts" if I could.
