So, recently got my new DTT transmission installed and I immediately noticed a few changes that I have a hard time imagining that they could be related to the new transmission. Could it be the transmission and/or how it was installed, or is it just coincidental and something else just happened to break now?

The truck only has 95k miles on it. I put the DDT injectors in a few years back and the truck has always run perfectly. No codes.

1. when I turn the key, the wait to start only stays on for 1 or 2 seconds. it used to stay on longer. even in the summer.

2. Making more smoke when I pull away from a stop. always a little puff of black smoke before, but now seems to be more.

3. more blow-by oil evident. drops on driveway where never happened before, and burned oil smell pretty much all the time. I changed the

oil a couple of weeks ago, but the blow-by and oil burning smell was present before I did the oil change.

4. Transmission shifts much harder. I am told that is expected with the new 3 disk TC w, but it shifts at different points now and doesnt

seem to be able to settle into a gear when driving between 35-45 mph. every little move I make on the accelerator at those speeds

(more/less) makes it shift.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. .

Thanks!

The engine is being put under more load - more smoke out the tail pipe ~ presuming your previous transmission was real bad and slipping. Unfortunately if you are burning oil, which is an indicator of an internal mechanical problem, it's going to get worse with more load on the engine. Odds are good you have a cylinder that is weak or worn bad and oil is getting past the rings, likewise combustion gasses blowing past as well. Could be a valve seal(s). Only way to verify that is to do a cylinder leakage test, and might as well do a compression test while you are at it.

Shift points are decided on how much load the transmission is under. Might be a break in issue, or something with the transmission, I'd give it some time, or call DTT on that issue.

Wait to start - above 50* it's more of a bulb check. Could be that the install might have fixed a problem there.

Well, I hope it is not a cylinder or ring problem at only 95k miles. I was thinking that the new transmission might be adding some sort of load that caused the increased smoke output. I noticed the change the day the new transmission went in. I also found that the transmission pan is weeping and I think that is where I might be getting the burned oil smell and spotting on the driveway. I think that the shop that installed the transmission may have overfilled it a bit too. Maybe they did not replace the o-ring on the dipstick tube either...
so... I am taking it to Diesel Outfitters in Smokey Point for the 1000 mile service and Mike is going to give it a good look. (not the place that installed it).
Thanks

I had the exact same transmission put in my old 98. 5. . It shifted weird but hard firm shifts. Everything is new and tight it WILL loosen up with time. I noticed that my truck seemed to "work" a little harder for the first 1000 miles or so, i think its because everything is so tight. after about a year or so my transmission would hunt between 43-46 mph tq lockup. . i just ended up keeping the OD off button pressed until i got to 50 and everything worked fine. I never had any slip issues either and i was running about 450 hp.

Thanks Rooster, that is what I was hoping to hear.
As far as the TC lock/unlock issue, I am going to reset the APPS/TPS and check all of my grounds again. I did put a new alternator in a while back and I hear that some alternators put out more "noise" than the OEM ones. I hope the DTT noise filter I have is going to take care of that if it is true...
