Ok so Im not a very good shade tree mechanic especially when its dark outside and there is no shade.

1. Cant seem to get the caliper off. Im trying to change the front pads.

2. The book says to compress caliper first then take off caliper by tilting back the top. I was going to use a C clamp and a piece of wood. At what point would I be able to do this. Certainly not before Im able to get the caliper off.

3. I was able to get some movement from the caliper but it would not come off. It seemed to be catching on something.

4. The rotor seem to be smooth as far as I can tell. There does seem to be rings in the rotors but they feel smooth.

5. The truck has 60,000 miles on . This would be the first brake job. For now I was just going to change the front pads.

Thanks

Mike

Mine came off after a couple good hits from my dead blow hammer. I did need the C-clamp to compress the caliper to get it back on tho.

If you have trhe two retaining bolts out, then you just need to compress the piston a little more. I use a flat blade screw driver in the opening at the top of caliper and pry between the outside pad and the caliper housing. You might try opening the bleeder screw while doing this as it would keep from having to force the fluid back through the system into the master cylinder reservoir, just be sure and close it. bg

mine is a bit of a pest, I had to lift the caliper off both top and bottom a little at a time back and forth. if you have a lip worn on the caliper more clearance will be needed i also loosen the bleeder and then compress the caliper tighten bleeder and remove clamp ( i use inside brake pad to put clamp on as it will stay in place) working on ford vans if i did not let the fluid out of the caliper it would hold some pressure on pads once aplied and wear fast. once new pads installed top off fluid level, pump pedal, once hard pedal have someone press pedal and loosen pass side bleeder when pedal is to floor don't let it up and tighten bleeder. repeat if bubbles are present. same on drivers side. ck fluid and truck on.
