My cooling fan has a chip in it and I want to change it out due to it possibly being out of balance.

What tools do I need? And are the threads left-hand tighten?

Thanks.

You will need a very big wrench. Usually you can only get them from Snap on or other tool distrbuters. Could try napa, might have some luck there. Just tell them what your are doing A good size hammer (22oz) would be helpful to smack loose the fan. They are reverse threaded too.

On real stubborn fans I have someone with a pry bar put tension on the serpentine belt to prevent the fan from spinning and I smack loose the fan.

Once its loose I believe its just 4 bolts for the clutch fan

Hope this helps!!

When I took the fan off my '91, I cut another notch in the sliding jaw of my brother-in-law's 15" or 18" adjustable wrench. It just fit that way and didn't cost any money.

PS: I used a hack saw to cut the extra notch.

36 MM wrench for the nut and it is LH threaded. you will also need something to hold the pulley to keep it from turning.
