Changing fluid on my 6-speed?

How much fluid and what weight? I am thinking about using royal purple. My truck is a one-ton with 6-speed. any help and tips are apprciated.

Which 6 speed do you have? The NV5600 requires 5W-30 sychromesh fluid. I used Amsoil MTF in mine and have been happy with it. Can't remember how much it holds but I think its 4 quarts not sure but its in the manual. If you have the newer G56 transmission it use different fluid but I'm not sure what.

Make sure you use factory fluid in that manual trannie. I had a race shop change mine (the guy looked it up on his computer and figured out the weight) and the next morning when the trannie was cold it wouldn't shift out of first without grinding. I had the dealer change out the oil and it shifted perfectly.
