My 1995 Cummings has 39,000 on the trans and engine so Its time to change the oil and filterand sdjust the trans. I change the engine oil every 5000 and just bought a K&N oil filter they cost a bit more and are they worth It? Any of you have a service manuel for a 95 for sale, I could use one.

Cummings? That's a place in GA, right?

Looks like you just showed up here Kenneth. Welcome aboard. Now look around and try the search engine (it's a tricky one-try "titles only"). The FAQ section for 12v's is really skimpy, but there are tons of information on here for the 12v. The FAQ section is just a late-comer.

I wouldn't waste my time pampering a factory transmission. It'll break or it won't. They're notoriously weak behind the Cummins. Save up for a real nice aftermarket job with billet TC and custom valve body.

Very good write up about filters in TDR some issues back. I use Hastings, Fleetguard, or Carquest. For serious filtration--use a bypass system. On one truck I use Rotella and change it A LOT. The other truck is full synthetic with bypass filtration. Change it every year or two.

Factory service manual: 800 890 4038 (MasterTech) about $100 for the main book, then there are supplements, but I don't have those. The FSM will cover every variation of Ram truck for that year.

39k? I've put 33k on my '95 and started with 141k. I've put over 70k on my 2000-started with 48k.

Don't let that thing rust in position, keep it moving. ;)

Where the best place to get valve body and kit

I would like to upgrade the trans but don't know where to get the kit for the trans. I don't know what to buy?

You can go to Geno's garage, Geno's , to buy the filters at a good price. Many other things too.

For your transmission, use ATF +3. and check the bands. They probably are ok. Check the Throttle cable adjustment, at the trans. NO slack. It should move as soon as the throttle moves.

That Cummins is about broke in now!!!!!!!!

As far as what trans parts to buy, do a search and do a lot of question asking. PM me if you need any help.

...

Anyone who's been around this bunch more that a week or two, should be aware of the infamous transmission WAR threads.

Anyone with such knowledge is not going to say, "XXXX transmission IS the best".

That leads to trouble.

I will say that I think there are many good transmission builders out there. I would LIMIT my search to those who advertise in national Diesel-oriented publications, like this one here.

I can say that I'm quite pleased with the little transmission from Navy Street, Ft. Walton, Florida. It's in my current puller.

BUT I'm taking it out in favor of a NV4500. ;)
