Are you talking about the awning over the slide out...
If so, on one end of the awning, on mine its the left side facing it... . or towards the front of the truck... .
Mine has a pin that holds the spring in the position its in... . you insert a tool in one of the pin holes... pull it tighter to remove the tension on the pin... remove the pin and allow the tensioner to go a 1/4 turn looser... grab it with another tool... . remove the first and so forth...
Much like taking up the tension on the springs on a garage door...
As I remember when I installed my awnings it was 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 full turns to test it. . and tension more or less to keep the fabric tight when the slide is out... .
