I have a 2007. 5 1 ton 6. 7L... I just got the truck and was changing the oil and everything. i went and bought a fuel filter and the guy at napa asked if i needed just the filter or the housing to. . he said that if it's the first time you changed the filter that i would need this. . What the hell is he talking about? isn't it just a cartridge filter like the 5. 9L's? i haven't changed it yet. i wanna see what this is all about. . Any info will be great thanks

Bovee... ... Dodge made a changeup on the cartridge and cannister. Apparently the cartridge is now a filter within a filter, to trap more water as i understand it. I don't have a 6. 7 , have a 5. 9 but i went through all this last fall changing the fuel filter on my son inlaws 07. 5 6. 7 cab&chassis. I found the best price at our local Internation Harvester Truck dealer. I buy all my filters there. They stock a lot of the filters for our Dodges and they will bring in any they don't have. If you have just recently purchased your truck you would have to compare your old cannister to a new one as to whether or not the changeup has been made. Hope this helps..... ED

It was a running change on the 09's I believe. To change it over you need the cannister and the element, there after you can just change the element only.

Hi, This has been discussed before. There was a couple of issues with the 07. 5/08 fuel filter and Cummins corrected them on the newer trucks. One was filtration, I believe cummins went from a 7 micron filter to a 5 micron filter (rated). The other improvement was the filter element is now serviceable were before it was not.

Fleetguard (Cummins) has stop servicing the old 7 micron filter and now all they offer are the 5 micron housing and element (FS43257) and the element (FS43258). You need to buy the housing and element the first time since they are not interchangeable with the 7 micron unit. You then can buy the element separately at a lower cost.

I buy mine from Geno's Garage with my oil filters to spread the cost of shipping over all of the units. I usually buy 6 oil filters and three fuel filters at a time.

You have a Cummins shop in Anchorage (2618 Commercial Drive

Anchorage, AK 99501, 907-279-7594/800-478-3646) that would probably provide you better information than a NAPA store. You can't beat the Fleetguard brand for quality, and I remember several years ago there was a problem with the Fram and Wix oil filters collapsing in the canisters. The Cummins Southern Plains here will also do engine repairs if your warranty has expired, and I was impressed with their work.
