Has anybody thought about just tossing out the current dash getting a piece of billet or turned steel and slapping something like this in and a few other gauges nearby?

uh, that would be fun for that retro-futuristic-jetsons look, I guess. be sure to post some pics when you're done :D

What about doing it all with a heads up display? Then you would not be peering through/around the steering wheel to see the various displays.

looks a little too much like a cash register to me...

probably WAY overpriced too I'm assuming??

I'd sooner use quality aftermarket gauges in the factory cluster

Holy Cow!! That looks like somethin outta one of them super-duper, futerized space ships!! Oo. Oo.

(I know this from the last time I was abducted by aliens) ;)

My concern would be if you could even get it to work with the stock sensors... don't forget diesel tachs are set up a lot different than gassers.

Plus, that speedo thingy only goes to 80! :-laf

The speedo goes to 255, although the bar graph only hits 80. After 80 you really don't need speedo and rear facing mirrors now do you :)

as far as the tach goes they have a diesel interface that attaches to the "W" terminal.

Specs:

Digital Instrument System Features

Displays included with this instrument system: Speedometer (0-255 MPH or KPH), Tachometer, Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Voltmeter, Fuel Level.

Also shown is: Odometer, Trip Odometer, Resettable Service Odometer and Hourmeter.

Several performance calculations include:

0-60 MPH (0-100 KPH) timer, ¼ mile timer, ¼ mile speed display, High Speed recall and High RPM recall.

Various Indicators can also be displayed such as:

Turn Signals, High Beam, Check Engine, Parking Brake, Cruise Control, 4x4 (when equipped), Wait to Start (when equipped).

Automatic Transmission gear indicator is also included which will display the full name (ie: Park, Overdrive, etc. ) of the current gear. Utilizing the gear position indicator will require the use of a Dakota Digital GSS-2000 or GSS-5000 sending unit.

Dakota Digital instruments systems also include a Demonstration Mode which will cycle the instrument readouts while the vehicle is standing still. This is especially popular while the vehicle is on display at a show, event or simply displaying the instrument system.

Full Metric conversions will cycle between MPH or KPH with the press of a button. If full (Celsius & KPH) metric instrument systems are required, please specify upon ordering.

Necessary sensors included for oil pressure (1/8” NPT), Water Temp (1/8" with bushings for 1/4", 3/8", 1/2” NPT) and speedometer pulse generator.

Fuel level gauge can read either OEM sensor, or any aftermarket style currently available. A universal fuel level sender, SEN-06-1, can be purchased from Dakota Digital if necessary.

Fully programmable speedometer for various tire sizes, rear-end gearing combinations, etc.

Built-in dimmer will reduce the display intensity as headlights/ parking lights are activated.

Fully adjustable warning points alert the user of potential vehicle problems.

They will also set the odometer to whatever mileage you want for I think $20. 00.

The unit is $720. 00.

For $900. oo you can send them your bezel and they will add 5 or 6 guages. And its a bolt in install.

Pity they didn't add boost or a pyro in there somewhere.

Anybody have any clever ideas on removing the "Cold/Hot" slider for the heater/ac.

The real pitty is that no one makes any nice looking bolt in 5k rpm diesel tachs... I'd like to see a 1g with a full phantom series dash... that would look sweet. Just tear out the holes and make your own billet bezel with some holes for the gauges.

hmmmmmm... ... probably better on somebody else's woman :)

I need almost every gauge replaced. A few companies like dolphin make billet dashboards. And there is so much wasted space in our dashes. I agree with the needles and numbers. Although if you are really going to use needles and be professional about it, you always orientate them on funny angles so the needles are at the 12'oclock position when they are maxxing out. It saves time when you are glancing down.

I love the gauge sets from Classic Instruments but they are more expensive then the Dakota.

I guess I still need some soul searching then.
