how hard is it? What tools are required? Isn't there a special valve spring compressor you need?

How big of a job is this guys? I'm in the process of buying a PacBrake from a fellow member and I'm going to have to go to the 60lb springs.

Also I'm up in arms on whether I should do both In. & Ex springs or just Ex. ?? I know ex. is required, but I don't believe In. is:confused:

I have the 3K GSK and I don't plan on pushing my truck past that so I do not believe I need the In. springs. You may call me cheap but that's $$ I could save and also labor if I end up having to pay someone to install them if I don't have the time.

Opinions wanted... .

thanks

Intake springs are only necessary if you want to put in a 4k GSK.

The springs are pretty easy to change. You need a block of time (like set aside an afternoon) and a spring compessor. (~$30 from NAPA) Work slowly and doublecheck that the piston is at the top so you don't drop a valve into the engine and create a bigger job.

Please explain why intake only springs are required for high rpm GSK. This puzzles me as both valves have to open and close at the same rpm so why would the exhaust valves be exempt from floating.

Personally if I had to do it again I think I would have changed both intake and exhaust, just because I was in there at the time, with that said, I think the exhaust valve spring swap wasn't too hard, took me a few hours because I was going very slow and careful (I did not have a spare collet , I think that's what it's called, that little piece that holds the spring in, which I did not know was actually 2 pieces, all the pictures and instructions I looked at before doing the swap just said to make sure you catch the collet with a magnet so I thought it was one small piece, but it's actually 2 pieces). #6 is the hardest, and try not to rip the insulation under the cowl or you will suffer the same fate as I did, fiberglass all over my arms and in my lungs:{ , misery for the next 3 days! It wasn't the hardest project I've done, just took long because I was alone and using the barring tool to turn the engine, so I had to keep going back and forth. I took longer to install my Kodiaks then my springs. Slow and careful is the key, no problem.

Good luck!
