I was wondering what tools or tricks for changing the springs. I started yesterday and relized that you cant get a the inner intake spring with the old spring compressor tool. Mabye i have to build a special bar to pry down on top  If you havent done the springs on a 24 v you wont understand the clearence issues.

About how much is a tool like that? Whats its part number? Can to you make it change one sping if you wanted to, or do you always have to do four?

Ok guys...

I dug into a Cummins tech manual for this info.

According to it the part number for the valve spring compressor tool on a 24V is 316226

Also for those having to change lifters/tappets while changing a Cam the tool number is 3822513

I know the tappet replacement kit is around $200

The Cummins valve spring tool we use for the 24v motor is 3164329. I don't remember the exact cost but it seems like it runs around $140-$150. The tool always compresses all 4 springs but if for some reason you only wanted to change 1 spring then you could just remove the keepers on that unit and not all 4.

I used one from Autozone. I had like 4 of them there. The ones witha flip handle work well until you try to get the springs on 5 and 6 off. The one from autozone was less than $20.

I heard the Cummins tool got superceded and of course the price jumped,go with Rips it looks much nicer than the cummins piece
