First cold snap today. Start my 2013 Ram 2500 this afternoon hear a strange groaning/ wining noise:eek:. Stop the engine look under hood nothing seems out of place. Re start and I get the Low Batt CEL sure enough it's not charging only showing 11 volts:confused:. Drive a short bit and the groaning noise comes back and so does the Volts back up to 14. Engine running normal everything else normal after a short while the groaning stops. Let the truck sit an hour start it and again Not charging again:mad:. I pulled code U059F any ideas? I can't find the code on our lists. I'm guessing I'll be paying my dealer a visit after my shift tomorrow. I'm wondering how much warranty I've got left....... 63875 miles on the clock....

Just got back from the dealer the following codes came up PO626 comes up Gen Field High:--), UO59F comes up NOx sensor invalid reading#@$%!, B1A8FOO???? Right now it's charging but I got a message saying that it's in "Safe Battery Mode" Not sure what that means. The Dealer says that the Alt is not covered under the 5 year 100,000 powertrain warranty FCA considers it electrical and not part of the powertrain. I guess we'll find out tomorrow what is really wrong with it.........I think there was a recall on the alts not very long ago only I thought that the recall was for the gas engines only.....

Just a follow up The Dealer found the Alt/ Gen had burned up and did some damage to some other components. Total bill was $1014. The Tec feels the other codes were all related to the alt/gen shorting burning out. Funny thing is I never smelt any odors that something was burning..... There was a thread on here about there being a re call on the alt/ gen's If they ever release the recall I'll be able to recover the cost of the repairs. I guess time will tell.... Thanks for the reply's.

the alt recalls were only on pass cars-no trucks

Then what is this??? It sure sounds like what just happened to my 2013 Ram 2500

NEW Fiat Chrysler recall affects 2007 to 2013 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 and all CC trucks

Just read about it here--

http://auto.economictimes.indiatimes...exico/54934955

In short, (no pun intended) an alternator diode problem may cause an engine to stall or catch fire.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Dodge Charger Police vehicles, 2007-2013 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis, 2008-2013 RAM 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis, and 2013 RAM 2500 and 3500 vehicles. The affected vehicles have a 220 amp alternator that may suddenly fail.[h=5]CONSEQUENCE:[/h]If the alternator fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. There is also the possibility that the alternator may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.[h=5]REMEDY:[/h]Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the alternator with a revised alternator, free of charge. Parts are not currently available, but beginning on November 25, 2016 owners will be notified of the recall and they will be sent a second letter when remedy parts are available. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S68.[h=5]NOTES:[/h]Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Sounds like you might be in luck for a refund.

What I have a hard time following is the logic that the alternator is not part of the power-train when the engine and the transmission are electronically controlled.

Maybe it's because logic and liability do not go hand-in-hand.

Update..... I spoke with Chrysler Customer service. At first they said that my truck was not part of the recall but after I forwarded the above printout from the National highway site they changed their tune and wasn't sure why my truck was not in the Vin number group. It sounded like the Vin number group is going to be amended to include more of our trucks. Letters about the recall are going to be sent out within the next two weeks. I have to wait two weeks and call them back to start the paperwork, after the letters are sent out, for a refund on my failure.

As for the Alt/ gen not being part of the powertrain warranty as per Chrysler if the part is bathed in oil, gears, cranks, pistons it's part of the powertrain if not it's something else. Now I wonder how the classify our injectors or CP3 pump...... I hope not to have to find out.......

That said... How do I move this thread out of the 911 section? It now belongs in the 4th gen section......

Nice how the dealers get recall info after the public-nice job FCA
The dealers are always the LAST to know. The only reason we know is because of this publication's website and these threads.
THANK YOU AGAIN MR PATTON! you have no idea the trouble you have caused with the TDR.......LOL
Keep up the great job!
