All right guys and girls here's another event for the TDR crowd to bring some Diesel representation to.
Some of you may know Rick Boiros, he is a TDR member, he owns a black 97, and has been to a couple of the local events in the past. Well, last summer Rick and his wife Maureen suffered a terrible loss of their 8 month old baby girl. The following is all the information on a Charity Ride in memory of Katie Boiros that will be taking place on Sunday June 13 2004. This is a family event that will prove to be a good time for all. All money raised will benefit the NICU at Rhode Islands Women and Infants Hospital.
Katie’s story
Kathleen Celeste Boiros, daughter of Maureen and Rick Boiros, was born on the evening of October 24th 2002. Arriving a few weeks early and weighing only 4 pounds 13 ounces, Katie’s determination to make people smile was apparent from the start. Her parents took her home a few weeks later in mid November to enjoy the holidays and all the wonders of a snowy winter.
From that first day when Katie opened her eyes her parents knew she was born to be a traveler. She enjoyed family trips to the beach and meeting the new members of her family in such places as Florida, California and Las Vegas. Katie’s ability to make you feel special at first glance was a trait that everyone remembers most fondly. One of Katie’s favorite past times was listening to her mother sing. They shared a special song that was not only lovely to hear but a joy to see as well.
Katie passed away just over 8 months after beginning her journey in this world. Autopsy results determined that Katie had a metabolic disorder known as Fatty Acid Oxidation Defect which prevented her body from rebuilding cells and producing energy properly. Early diagnosis through the newborn screening process may help save babies by detecting and finding treatment for this disorder, but there are many forms which are still at the research level. Katie’s parents have set up a charity in her honor at Women and Infants Hospital located in Rhode Island. Within the pediatric surgery group, they are working on research into this type of tragic disease.
There were many people that were lucky enough to know this little angel for the short time that she was with us. Her big bright smile and precious giggle will be missed and never forgotten.
