I am having an electrical issue involving the brake lights on my 2010. It is a 1/2 ton, but I thought I would post it here since I'm fairly sure all of the chassis electrical should be the same as the HD trucks.
Noticed this week that the 3rd brake light would not illuminate but both the right and left side brake lights on the bed would work correctly. I changed the bulb this morning on the cab mounted light and the light would still not light. Checked and changed the CHMBL fuse, still wouldn't light. Also checked connector on the brake light switch on the pedal with no change.
Went in the house and got some lunch. After I came back out and tried again, now all 3 brake lights will work, but only with the ignition on. None of the brake lights will now work with the ignition off. I have to admit, I've never paid attention to this before, but I could swear that they always worked before with the ignition off as has every other vehicle I've ever owned.
Could one of you confirm for me that the brake lights on a 4th gen truck work with the ignition off so that I know that I am not losing my mind? Secondly, is there a relay somewhere that would be causing this issue that I can't find for some reason? I'm assuming these trucks use a TIPM similar to the 3rd gens that had issues. Is that what could be causing this problem in this case?
