A closely guarded secret?

My paperwork does not show it, the 5 star dealer does not know it, and can't tell me where it can be found. I could not find the answer in the search forums.

Will some one please tell me where the chassis number is located on our trucks?

Customs wants to know, to make sure the I'm not shipping the product of a chop shop. The truck is in port in Georgia, so I can't even crawl around and look for it. My service manual is in it.

It seems that somebody, somewhere has a way to match the serial numbers of our truck's components to the chassis and various other parts, assuming that they can be located. Where would customs get the information to verify it all?

I would appreciate an answer as soon as possible, if not sooner.

TIA

Your Factory Service Manual never mentions Chassis Number. The VIN is on the Chassis.

From your service manual:

Thanx for looking that up Thomas!

I guess the VIN is in, and the chassis number is a thing of the past.

Customs should accept that - I hope.

I beleive that there are still VIN number on the chassis, call your local police department, they may be able to tell you where to find them. I recall seeing one on a 1991 Jeep Cherokee on the rear frame (unibody) near the bumper mount.

Drivers side framerail bottom side. . If you look in the cd manual it will tell you not to replace this part of the frame if in a collision. .

Grrrrreat!

Thank you all.

Dieselman narrowed it down to where I'll be able to find it, when I get to it.

Right now the truck is out somewhere on the ocean blue, headed for Sweden.

The local police and sheriff had no clue, nor did they have the inclination to fool with it and find out.

Trust this forum. It knows all!
