Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Chauk up another victum of the 5th gear nut problem.

I knew it would happen some day, kinda like a guy who smokes 3 packs a day know that one day the Dr. with give him the bad news.



Driving to work on the highway the RPMs jumped, the the truck dropped to idle at 65 mph. Waited till I was at 50mph and droped it into 4th and circled back towards home to get the Jetta. :{ :{



And after I spend 5 hours diagnoising my trailer brake controller connection problems.



Well Blue Chip Diesel will get more of my money. They have a guy in Conn. who rebuilds them with the full main shaft and all new gears and syncros and do-dads. I thought I would make it over 200K before it would happen ... only made it to 198,030 miles.



The transmission has been rattleing something firce the last 6 or so months ... guess this was an indication. Was planning on fixing the transmission during the summer, but wife said if it not broke, don't bother ... well, now I need the truck and its down for a week and a half.



Moral to the story ... if your gut is telling you that your NV4500 is on borrowed time in the 5th gear department ... GET IT FIXED ASAP and don't wait.

My 99 went out at 79,000 miles 2 wheel drive

Mine did not make any noise either. Pulled the tailshaft and fixed It. Still holding I sold the truck but see It all the time.

hey that happened to a friend of mine too as he was going to the beach with his female friend... who was engauged... Now I'm not trying to say this was an act of God but, sux to be him, and serves him right! mine will probly go soon, my KDP did
