I was driving through Michigan the other day and picked up the free Trader. Found this ad:

"1993 Dodge Ext. Cab. , 3/4 ton, 2wd, Cummins Diesel, 264,000 miles, no rust, clean, runs strong. $3650"

There's a small color picture, can't tell anything else except it's an LE, 2-tone red/gold(?) and it has all its hubcaps and trim rings on the right side.

Don't know anything else about, didn't see it, don't live near it. Just passing it along. Contact info is Airport Auto, Harrison, MI 989-539-2711

I had a great time reading your sig line just now. Very funny!! :D

I used to take my 90 into "Cracktown" for work. Nature and the notoriously bad blue paint of the late 80's and early 90's turned it into a peeling rust exhibit. Not being one to really care about appearance anymore, I got kind of a reverse snobbery about how rusty it was. When someone would pass me in a worse looking truck, I'd wonder how I could achieve the same look without actually having to pour salt water on it.

Turned out that the "urban camoflauge" look was a great crime preventer. I had the Ram's head on the hood during the "Hood Ornament Fashion Period" and no one ever broke it off. I never even locked it, and could leave the windows down in summer.

However, I wasn't completely comfortable, and would try to not park out of sight of where I could see it out the window of my jobsite.

On another note, I recall your post about the tailgate thieves. Doug, from Texas, posted recently about drilling and putting a large pop rivet in the gate, down low, to prevent it from sliding off. Did you see that one?

Yep, I did buy it that way, but I'm trying to strike a balance between not too nice so scumbags will mess with it, and not so ugly the city will tow it away...

Funny about your hood ornament comment. I had a couple Mercedes 123 diesels in the mid 90's. One had the star on it, and I lived in a fairly crummy neighborhood with a lot of gang activity, but nobody messed with it. I gave the car to my mom, who lives in a nice little town about 45 miles outside the city limits. The star was gone in a week!

I have a clean '86 Ramcharger with the ram ornament. I'm afraid to leave it out overnite. I live on a quiet street in a pretty decent neighborhood now, but there are a lot of bored children wandering around...

Someone mentioned the pop rivet idea in my thread. Sounds good, but I'm afraid it might just make them try harder and pry/beat it off!

I hear ya. I almost always leave the key in the ignition... . I figure if someone is nuts enough to steal it, at least the switch and wires won't be all buggered up when I finally recover it!
