first, welcome to the tdr, take a minute, and fill out your signature, so we know what truck you have, and what mods. are done to it. yes a HX40 from the 8. 3L C/ISC engines can be used, but i would reccomend one that has been modifed, such as the piers unit, they have better bearings, and the rotaing assy is zero balanced. the stock HX40's dont seem to stay together too long, reason being is they use the same shaft that the stock HX35's use, but the HX40's have bigger compressor, and turbine wheels, more rotating mass, more fatigue, and stress on the shaft. they tend to break alot. now some people have had ok results with a stock HX40, but if you plan on beating on it alot, then i wont reccomend that turbo. now if your only running an #11 plate, you can swap your stock 12cm wastegated turbing housing for a 16cm non wastegated turbine housing to help with your egts, the only downfall if you sacrifice a bit of spoolup, and a wastegate, but your top end will flow better, and will have cooler egts. you can pickup on eof those housing for around $150 bucks. if your willing to spend a little bit of money, i would reccomend a HTB2 (S300) type of turbo. they are a very tough turbo, have very good turbo spool/responce, and flow lot of air, and will keep egt's down. plyus ther are multiple compressor/ turbine wheels, and housings to choose from to match what you want to do with your truck. you probably can find one used for a good price as well, since the turbo has been around for some time now. good luck with what you want to accomplish.
