Cheap PTO cover with higher than normal fill-hole ?

Is high idle a feature on early 03 04 trucks?

Pacbrake PRXB installed.

I'd like to replace a leaking PTO cover gasket and change fluid while I'm at it. Many mention the merits of adding an additional quart to transmission fluid. Rather than spend $90+ I can buy Eaton 14575 cover & gasket for $15 and just tap a fill hole as high as it will go. My question: I notice factory cover is stamped and as a result comes out allowing for 2-3 millimeters clearance. If I replace stamped cover with a solid cover I'm not going to be encroaching on some gear inside the transmission correct ?

I don’t recall anything being close to the cover on my NV5600.

I think the stamping is for strength.

Are the cover holes on the NV5600 all the way through like they are on the NV4500? I always filled through the upper hole in the PTO cover on my NV4500. Matter of fact, I used a pump meant for filling the lower unit on an outboard motor. The adapter on the end of the hose screwed right into the cover bolt holes.

You've got plenty of space, no clearance issues.

If you're trying to fill your NV56 my recommendation would be to just to roll up on ramps on one side of the truck front and rear. Drain on the side pitched down, measure out an approximation of fluid and fill from the side on the ramps. The bolt holes go all the way through the housing (check the link above) so they can be used as fill and drain ports.

According to this post, yes you can fill the transmission via top bolt of PTO cover.
