I have a friend that is going through Army officer candidate school training in GA right now and his CTD is currently in upstate NY near Lake Ontario. He does not have computer access yet, and am posting this for him. I was gonna drive it down for him and fly back, but I'm thinking it might be cheaper/easier for him to just have it hauled down there. So I'm looking for any leads on cheap transport companies, and any estimates on costs (including any possible military discounts) so I can pass it on to him. Thank you for any input in advance.

Early this summer I purchased a Subaru Outback off of Autotrader.com to be my beater car and save miles on my baby, CTD.

I did a Travelocity search on airfares and auto rentals and opted to do a 24 hour trip to LA, CA. I had two cars to look at when I went down and figured if I didn't like either one I could turn around and head home in the rental car. Drove like a caffine cranked maniac down there. Spent part of a night in the economy sedan, which was, shall we say... rather unpleasant

Bottomline was it was the cheapest route for me. Sleeping in the Subaru wagon on the way back was much more comfortable. Of course that, plus the border collies, was the reason a wagon was mandatory. ;)
