I did a 3500 mi oil and filter chg today. I did the first fuel filter change also(7200mi total). the truck did'nt readily start even though I cycled the lift pump 4 times(30 sec interval). Anyhow, the truck finally started and the ckeck eng. light stayed on. I did the 3 times on the ign. sw. and i came up with "P-PCU then P1693". I tried re-starting the truck several times but the light would'nt go out. I re-cycled the key to get the code again and started the eng. while the code was showing. The light then went out. I again re-checked the code and it still shows P-1693. I don't have my manuals yet and I am leaving town tomorrow. My truck is a '01. 5 ETC AUTO. Any help appreciated!!! Chris #ad

read from my 2000 Service Manual.
There is 2 kind of codes.

P1693(M) M-Malfuntion Indicator Lamp
DTC Detected in Companion Module.
A fault has been generated in the companion engine control module.

other one
P1693(M) M-Malfuntion Indicator Lamp
DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM.
A "Companion DTC" was set in both the ECM and PCM.
Hope that help.

Thanks, but any simple interpitation? Truck runs well. Time to see my friendly DC dealer? I'm not to happy to think that I have to have someone work on my truck. Anyone out there tried the 3 click on the key without anything wrong? If nothing wrong, what comes up on the odometer? '01. 5 ETC auto Chris

Drive it short distances (1/4 mile - 1/2 mile) and shut it off for a few minutes. Do this 3-4 times and the computer will reset itself I understand. Cycling the key 1000000 times will not get rid of the code, only tells you what the code is.

You might also unhook the batery for an hour or so before going on these 3-4 short trips.

Hope it works out. Let us know. It worked for me this way, but my code was caused by a faulty product. Replaced the product, but the code remained. This is what I had to do to get rid of the code. Good luck.

Chris P. S. , I'll let you know if it works.

I can not add to this post but I checked the codes the other day and I came up with the same one Chris had P PCU. Does this mean anything? I am not having trouble but ran out of fuel back in December. Should I worry or get my buns in gear and order the service manual? BOTH?
