Check engine light after replacing batteries

This afternoon my batteries died in my driveway on my 2015 Longhorn. I replaced the batteries back in mid 2018 but when I did those I bought new ones, replaced them one at a time then returned the old ones for the core charges. Today I just pulled both batteries and took them with me so I wouldn't have to make another 10 mile trip to return the old ones. Now I have a check engine light when I start the truck. In the past I have gotten a check engine light for a misfire but the light went out after so many starts with no problems while running. Will the light reset itself this time too after so many starts?

I guess so, probably after ten starts or so.
Replace both batterys at a time is absolutely normal, actually there should be a CEL after doing so at all.
Do you have a code reader to check out whatbit wants to tell you?

Thanks for the response. I have never had a reason before now to purchase a code reader so I don't have one. The truck has only been started 3 times since replacing the batteries yesterday afternoon so I'm hoping it will reset in the next few days. Thanks again Ozy for the reply.....Don

If you ever consider a reader, safe yourself money and frustration and get AlfaOBD for Android. Best you can buy and cheaper then many generic incapable Scanners one can buy in the parts stores.

What brand batteries just failed?

Not sure of the brand name. Something like Motor Craft. They cane from Advanced Auto and were purchased in June 2018. I remembered they came with a 3 year warranty but I figured it would be prorated and I would get a partial reimbursement. They gave me two brand new batteries at no cost. Kudos to Advanced Auto. They now carry the Die Hard brand name.

How are you using the Truck that your Battrrys are gone after just 2 years and that twice in a row.
Usually you'd be on the first set by now.

Let me guess, you are doin short rides and always wait for the WTS light to go out before you crank it over?

I finally fully retired August 28th at 73 years old. Up until that time I drove the truck every week day 27 miles each way. So no short trips. Even since then I have very few trips under 10 miles. The original batteries lasted a little over 3 years and the second set just over two. I think the biggest issue is the Florida heat. It really gets hot under that hood and even in the truck sitting in the sun.

Yeah, but 27mi is still a short time to recharge the Batterys if you do the WTS cycle. If you do so, better don't, just crank it over, this WTS is for emissions reasons only and not needed except in subzero temperatures.

Well after you start the engine the Alternator feeds them instead of the battery... at least most of it. Not all but most.

It makes a difference if you pull 200A for 20 seconds from the battery on every start up, or avoiding it by just start the engine like it is meant to before the Emission stuff showed up.
