I have done a lot of reading in past threads, but I'm still not clear on this.

Two weeks ago I decided while driving home from work at 3am to see just how fast the truck could go. After very slow acceleration above 95, it hit 105 and didn't seem to go any further, so I let off. A mile later the check engine light came on and I found the common P1963 and P0216 codes, which I had my friend clear with his Snap-On tool.

Drove it a few days with no lights and no codes, then I towed our 12k# trailer for about 150 miles and the light and codes were back. The truck was still running strong, so I wasn't too worried and I ordered the ODB-2 tool on Monday to clear them myself.

Since the trip home from work yesterday, the check engine light is now off, even though the codes have not been cleared.

I thought it took like 40 starter cycles to clear the light ? Anyone who knows how the check engine light relates to the codes ? Could I have had these codes for a while and just not known it ?

And on the codes themselves, I'm going to replace the fuel filter this weekend. Pre-filter pressure still shows a good 15-12-8. I'm just hoping I'm not next in line for the new VP-44 club !

thanks
