My buddy has a 2001 and recently has been noticing that the check engine light would come on and the oil pressure guage would go to zero. He checked his oil, and noticed it was low, but still above the add mark. After reading the manual and finding out that if oil pressure is low, the guage drops to zero, we figured that his oil being low was dropping the oil pressure. And it only seemed to happen right after starting the truck or when comming to a stop(truck at idle). So he changed his oil and made sure it was full, and that seemed to alieviate the problem for a few days. Now its doing it again. He checked his oil and it read full. Any ideas on what could be causing this? We are guessing a faulty guage or sending unit, but was hoping someone else might have any ideas. Thanks in advance for the help!

Bad sending unit! Seens to be pretty common. There is a flash for the truck but it just turns the gauge into and "idiot gauge" by making it say 40 psi anytime it's above or below set parameters. Don't let a dealer do this flash, get a new sending unit and that will most likely solve your problems.

That should read do NOT let the dealer do the reflash. Mine had exactly the same symptoms caused by a defective oil pressure sending unit.

ahhh thanks for the catch, luckily it's Sunday and he couldn't have gone to the dealer and gotten it done. Don't let the dealer do a flash for oil pressure
