Been getting an intermittant check engine light, read the odometer, get P1693, which mean a companion code in the ECM. After the five starts it goes away and then reappears, week a month or so later, then a repeat of the check engine light and1693. Got the ECM code read, 0336, CPS (actually APPS on my Y2K/Auto, truck RED in color  )

Zeroed the 0336, and then a repeat some time later, etc.

NONE of the usual APPS issues: no tach, stumble, miss, idle etc.

Reset the APPs calibration several times.

Read all of the search items on APPS etc. I am wondering if I have a loose connection to/from the APPS. If so, then clean the connection with electronic cleaner, redo the electrical with dielectric grease to help keep out weather? The experience  seems to occur when the weather warms up for a while, and then when it gets cold and stays cold (drier?) stays away till it gets warmer again (more moist?).

Thoughts, suggestions, and without the usual APPS trouble items mentioned previously, is a lose connection the best possibility. hopefully will be in a warm spot with a garage soon to check the connection.

dont think 0336 crank position sensor is apps. if i remember the cps is on the side of the block and the apps is on the vp44. am i right?

Crank Position Sensor is behind the starter. You can see it from under the truck but probably could not get to the elctrical connector without removing the starter. I just had this and ordered a CPS from http://www.hoeslidiesel.com./

Changing the sensor requires starter removal.

i got that code 3 times and cleared it the crank position sensor code only when i had the xcellerator on extreme and the six gun on level 6 and even then i really had to hammer it but i cleared it and everything seems ok now

Thanks for the attempts guys.

As far as I know and have been able to research, the APPS is the correct term on my Y2K, for what used to be known as the CPS on earlier models. According to this thread confirms that was before 99 "... on the 99's in the service manual the TPS and APPS are the same thing, I just replaced mine Friday night. Cured my problems and the truck is running great. the bad news is most dealers want over $400 dollars for the stupid thing... . "

Anyhow was warm enough over the weekend to remove the plastic covers etc. , so pulled the connections , cleaned them, then dielectric grease to help seal the joint, and relubed the cables leading to it. Reset the APPS, and so far, 400 miles  , and no trouble, but been there before. Truck seems to be running smoother, but that is SOP?????

Trying to avoid the $400, cause the gauge is saying the lift pump is thinking about going bellyup in the future :( . Will be the third one of those when it happens, but still maintianing at least 8# on full throttle, but suspect the big trailer will finish the kill later this spring.
