In the Diesel Power test of a Cab and Chassis 6. 7L they experienced some check engine lights. Also heard that CELs are a common thing in 6. 7Ls with their sophisticated electronics.



Have you guys with new 6. 7s had any CELs? Also, I heard that the 6. 7L ECM will also cancel CELs if you turn the engine off, wait a few minutes, and turn it off. True statment?

The first CEL I got on mine which was not long after I got it, would not clear the CEL's and it was not for the lack of me trying also LOL... I was told today by a very trusty tech on these motors that you could not read them or clear them without the scanner or a programmer of some sort that can talk with the ECU/ECM or whatever the brain is called on these gotes'...



I found by just messing around today when I got another code that did quickly go away, that you can turn the key on but not start the motor and hold the trip reset in as per the owners manual, you get the engine hours which was a cool thing.



Now what it didn't tell you was to hold the trip meter reset in before you turn the key on and boot everything up but again not to crank on the motor, it will put your instrument cluster in some sort of a systems check sequence. Its a pretty intense system check as you would see if you try this.



Then another wild thing I found today was my trip meter just decided to not come back when you toggle between the two. Messed with this sucker for quite a while before I finally figure out how to get it back on and working correctly. These darn trucks are way to smart and finicy if you ask me LOL... No doubt mine is a girl :):):)



You have to have the door open and the engine running and then try to toggle to the trip meter to get the trip back up and on. It had been working and recording fine, I just could not get it back up to see what it said or to clear the meter. The door open and the motor running though did the trick...



The two codes I ahve had have been one for a low voltage reading while the heater grid was warming the intake air on a cool engine, which was remapped by a dealer's service department that she won't have them under the hood again if I have my rathers. I figure DC had a recalibration map to set the min max to stop this while the heater grids were in cycle mode.



The last one I got which was today was a fluke EGR valve trip that seem to reset on its own and has been fine since. I say fluke, it is until I get that code again anyway, the tech told me to keep an eye on her while she is still quite new and getting all broke in and he was certain it was going to be a killer truck, which I was glad to hear:)
 
My '07 will set a CEL on a cold start intermitently, but will clear itself after 5-10 start ups. I have not had time to take it to the dealer. I suspect it has somthing to do with the preheat circuit.

I've never had a check engine light, never set a code. The truck has been perfect to this point, over 35,000 miles, check that, the o-ring on the oil filler cap broke on my last oil change and I had to replace it. Not what I would call a problem.
