So last Friday night I had a battery problem. Now I have a problem with a check engine light and stall issues. The truck ran great until I tried to start it at the kids school. When I put it in gear it stalled. I got concerned and turned it completely off. When I tried to restart the truck it was running really rough and the check engine light came on. I again turned it off and waited. The next time it started fine and went in gear fine, but the check engine light will not go away. Fun fun. Anyone have an idea? Appreciate all the help!

Now this is how I wish all of our repairs went... . "Sir, it looks like your problem was simply due to the tech not tightening your positive terminal on the drivers side battery. I lifted it completely off with no problem. Please accept our apology for the time it took you to come back here again. "

Truck runs great again and I can stop worrying about my truck. Thanks everyone!

In case I don't post before Christmas... . Merry Christmas to everyone here at TDR!

Nice... gotta love the repairs where the only problem is someone left their brain at home... :-laf

Oh, and here is the way to check the codes (lifted from another thread):

Keys out climb in truck, make sure door is shut. Cycle key 3 times leaving in on postion very fast.

Soemtimes you may have to do it a couple times but each time you do you have to pull the key out of ignition and open door and then close door to kill the delay feature. It should work.

Some people try to stand at the edge of the door with the door open and doing it but it won't work.

Or how about" Selling dealership services wife's new Jeep and forgets to put the lid back on the air cleaner box. Wife drives it 4,800 miles, I check under hood, find lid off and intake tract full of dirt, leaves, june bugs. I go BALLISTIC, call dealership, that upper intake be pulled and cleaned, engine oil changed. Dealership cedes and fixes issue. Selling Dealership then does steering update on my truck, leaves bolt out of steering damper and it eventually falls down and started draging ground while I'm loaded with cattle, call, read dealership the riot act, make them fix it. Wife's Jeep is ready for next p/m, take to dealership, Jeep has 20K, asked that they rotate tires while Jeep is being serviced. Pick Jeep up 3 hours later and head on 400 mile round trip drive. Notice at 60 mph, Jeep shakes, and 70 Jeep shakes and rattles... . hhmmm. . must have flat tire, pull over, no flat just missing several lug nuts and those that are installed are NOT tight on right rear wheel!!!!. .

(Apparently all the lugnuts are working at the dealership!!!)

jack Jeep up on side of interstate, tighten 2 remaining lugnuts, borrow one from left rear wheel and one from left front wheel (so they each have 4... except for right front, its got 5 cause thats on my wifes side! Married guys will get that!)

Finish 400 mile weekend round trip, Monday morning, call boss and let him know I'm gonna be a little late. Take wifes Jeep and her camera phone to dealership... show pics to G. M. , service advisor, and service manager. Then inform all of them that their employment with me and my checkbook has been terminated. Yes, you CAN fire your dealership... Jeep is going to the Ford dealership for next oil change... we will see how they do!

Wow!! I'm impressed by two things:

1) That you gave them that many chances to "fix" your vehicles.

2) There weren't bodies...

To be honest. . after the first issue, I thought seriously about firing them. But, they made good on it, pulled the intake and all the plumbing from air box to intake, cleaned everything, then changed the oil. I understand that the guy that does the oil changes is just some idiot that gets barely above minimum wage plus he gets a neat title like lubrication technician. I know the G. M. pretty well and the service advisor was very helpful and concerned. The lugnut issue on the wifes' Jeep and my steering parts falling off both happened almost back-to-back... . So quickly that I was still ****** about the steering when the lugnut issue happened. The The oil change guy didn't work on my front suspension, so that makes a minimum of two different guys that left stuff loose on my vehicles. There is no excuse for a fastener being left loose. Do not EVER accept any excuse for something being left loose.

All that being said, a short 3-4 years ago, I would have been at the dealership screaming and cussing all the way from the G. M. down to the oil change guy. Any more, its not gonna change whats already happened, trust me, THEY are aware of how I feel about their service department, my vehicles will NOT be back in their service dept. for ANY reason!. Warranty included... I will fix it myself at my expense or I will have it wreckered to another dealership. And I will tell anybody that asks that I would NOT reccomend their service dept.
