2013 engine improvements

I had my first check engine light a day ago. I am on the road so I took it to a dealer in Las Vegas too have it looked at. Turned out to be a problem in the wiring to the oxygen sensor. Repairs were made and two other reflashes were needed as well, all on warranty. It appears that there are notifications for all three of these issues. I'm not sure what changes were made but I noticed a change in the sound of the engine and a change in driveability, both for the better. I will be towing again next week so I'll see if there is any difference there. So far I really like this truck!!!

I read a lot on here about updated "flashes" for our trucks. I generally avoid the dealer and do any maintenence I can. Since this truck will rarely go to the dealer unless I have a major warranty issue, how's a guy supposed to know about these flashes? Do they ever notify the owner by mail like they do for a recall? I must admit, if it weren't for the TDR I wouldn't even know about these flashes. Am I missing out and should I be stopping by my dealer... as much as it pains me to do so? If there's a benefit in performance or mileage I would have no problem getting it updated, however I'm very satisfied with the truck as is.
 
I'm with you on not going to a dealership however I had the check engine light and needed it looked after. I am in Las Vegas and I am always uneasy about just picking a dealership to get work done. I got lucky this time as I feel they did good work and were very obliging. I never had any notifications about reflashes and any time I asked the dealership where I bought the truck I just got a dumb reaction. Like you I was happy with the truck before. I'm not expecting big changes but as I said in my first post the changes are very subtle. There were some minor shift issues when towing that I will be checking when I tow in a few days. I have about 18000 miles on the truck.
 
Thanks Slow Six! That's good that your warranty work was covered in the U. S. A... as I recall your from Saskatchewan I think. Good to know.
 
I have my dealer do my oil and filter service as schedule, I can not buy the oil for $60 and they change it for $62. They check for updates at every service, and usually find one every timeexcept once. The lats opdate, 2 weeks ago, was the only one that made any noticable difference. Milage seems to be better.
 
My engine came on a couple of times but would reset and the dealer wasn't able to find anything. Did a reflash. Then last night it came back on again and was still this morning. Drove to the dealer and show them the light. An hour later came back told me the sensor in the turbo was bad. Ok no problem, yea right. Problem you cant change the turbo sensor only. They have to replace the whole entire turbo. Wow, I only have 2100 miles on the truck and I have to have the turbo replaced. My 06 had 95,000 plus miles and no real engine issues. I hope this isnt a sign of contuning troubles.
 
I have a 2012 Bighorn crew cab 4x4. The dealer told me today after running scan to see why it kept throwing the engine code, that it was the turbo sensor and that it inside the turbo. It's just sad I only have 2100 miles on it.
 
CAUTION: Do not use a screw driver or tool to pry sensor out of the turbocharger bearing housing. Damage to sensor may result. If sensor is damaged during removal, install a new sensor.



Disconnect negative battery cable.

Remove turbocharger oil supply line.

Disconnect speed sensor electrical connector.

Remove turbocharger speed sensor mounting bolt (1).

Remove turbocharger speed sensor (2).
 
Towed 150 miles today after reflashes done last week. Transmission shifts a lot better now and a nice improvement in driveablity for towing.
