Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Check Engine Light

I have a 2000 2500 that has been "P" pumped. Naturally the computer thinks the VP has taken a dump so it throws a code and the "check engine light' stays on. In Colorado the emissions people will not test your vehicle with the CEL on. Any way to disable it ? I know the tape cover and bulb removal trick. Any way for someone to remove the VP pump from the computer? Thanks. Rekabeka

Is a visual for emission control parts not conducted in Co ?

No, not on the older models. Understand the people doing the checks are usually not trained mechanics, especially diesel, and most don't really know what they're looking at? I spoke with a person at Colorado dept of emissions and he informed me that it could be inspected but would fail emissions just because of the light? Rekabeka

How do they test? When we had emissions testing they would plug into the ODB2 port and directly read the codes. They also checked the run time and number of starts so you couldn't do a hard reset for those codes that took a while to show up.

On the older model vehicles the test is just a
"wand up the pipe", no connection to the OBD. They do check for visual smoke. I'm told the VW
diesels always pass and they don't even hook them up because of the VW software. That from a Tiguan owner and an emission tester. Lots of different items cause CEL's! Rekabeka

I would contact programmers that deal with writting for the 2nd gens.I have seen engineers eliminate dtc's

Thanks for all your ideas / input. I finally got an emissions test, passed and if you want to know how I did it send me your email. That fact is I used some creative electronics experience I learned while spending 9 plus years as a tech in the Navy. If I ever decide to sell this truck, all will be disclosed to the new owner.
