I was installing The PS High Idler kit and set off the check ingine light... .

How do you reset it or does it reset itself on my truck? How long will it take to reset ?

Any infor would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks!!!!

barryg41,

On a first gen truck if you disconnect the battery for approximately 2 minutes it resets itself.

AlK, I did unhook the batteries for 15 minutes and that didnt work.

:(

But after driving it around the block and maybe giving the throttle position sensor some new data and letting it sit for over a hour it finally reset. :D :D

Now I got to go to work. I will finish the project tomorrow after I get some sleep in the morning.

FYI:

The "check engine" light resets, typically after 3 cycles. BUT the code itself remains in the computer.

Therefore, when the dealer hooks up to your truck... the error code will still register.

I am not trying to sound rude... but I am my own warrantey. I hope the stealer never sees my truck again.

I was really suprised that it took so long to reset. I tried cycling the ignition three times but it still took over a hour. Almost two hours.

Anyway the problem is being worked! Really, it's not a problem, it's just part of Murphy.
