Today while I was driving I looked down and noticed the check engine light was on but nothing seems to be wrong. I read a while back about somebody saying if you turn the key on and off so many times it will display some codes on the odometer, can somebody tell if i can do that on mine? My truck is a 99.

Thanks

Cory

Sometime during the '99 model year this feature was added. Mine, however does not display error codes in the odometer window. Most OBDII scanners or the Cummins QuickCheck will give you the error codes that have cause the check engine light to come on. If it's just a temporary code, the light should go off after 3 driving cycles.

Had the same situation. Have you added anything to the truck, such as E-Z etc. ? I fixed my problem by taking the electrical connections loose at the injector pump and the MAP sensor and spraying them with electrical contact cleaner and then applying di-electric grease, making sure they "snapped" back together. Light has not come back on since.

Thanks Kevin, I tried the key thing but it did not work. Maybe my truck was built to early to have that feature on it. The light did go out last night after the third or fourth time i drove it since the light came on. One other thing, I have a carter pusher pump on it and the pump is going bad (will be replacing tomorrow) if the truck was to get low fuel pressure would that make the light come on?

When the first stock lift pump went out I don't remember the light coming on then. The truck did not act like it had low power or anything so i doubt that it even had low fuel pressure. So I doubt that that is the case. Thanks again.
