My truck has started to the check engine light thing. The only sensor that I have not changed is the manifold pressure over the years. I tried cycling the key three times but did not get any code. Is that how you get the code from the ECM? The truck actually went to limp mode for abut 30 secs yesterday and them started running normal. Truck still runs fine. The only thing obvious I see is my fuel gauge is starting to act up. It will go to empty when sitting at a light. When I start it in the morning the gauge works fine when I come back out to get in the gauge is on empty and will not work until I cycle the key. I wouldn't think the gauge would set a code in the engine. Am I going to have to take my pill and go to the stealer?

Your dash will only flash PCM codes not ECM codes. You will need to go to the stealer to get the ECM codes read.

If I am not mistaken, your year model or right around there were having fuel gauge problems. It is from the sending unit in the fuel tank.

PROSTAR your 98. 5 modle will not show the codes with the key trick. This option was not available at that time. :(
