Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Check Engine Lite

I have a Check Engine Lite and my tachometer drops to 0 and stays for about 5 seconds then returns to normal. What do I check first?

Check the codes first. Put the key in the ignition and switch ON (not start) - OFF - ON - OFF - ON and the codes will sequence in the mileage display (and finish with done). I would guess the crank position sensor.

Sounds like a crank sensor going out.
