I was in about 35 degree weather when starting the truck. The wait to start light came on. I waited. It went off. I started the truck. The first about 6 or 7 seconds of idling the check gages light stayed on. Oil press was good during this time but the volt meter was at or below 12 volts. Then slowly the volts came up and the idiot light went off. Volts stabilized at 14. Do you all think my batteries are getting ready to die? Or is this to be expected after a grid start. I just dont remember this happening before.
Second question. The last few days on a cold start up I can hear a faint howlling noise when idling. It goes away when warm. Its very faint and hard to hear over the engine clatter but goes away after warm up. Any ideas? Water pump bearings? Alternator bearings? TIA Bill
