On my way to the firehouse I noticed the check gauges light came on. I looked and found the amp meter was not registering.

Qustion 1. Is the voltage reg built into the alternator, or is there one on another location.

I know I should'nt assume the altinator is bad but what else can it be.

You input is needed. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the regulator is built in. I'll check my service manual when I can get to it. Have you checked the voltage at the batteries while it's running?

since it was under warranty i was going to have it towed to my dealer.

My friend who was going to tow it said it was charging fine now. when I got back from working I checked it out and sure enough the problem went away.

I will monitor the gauges for a while to see if it re occurs.

Thanks

I had this problem on my '02. I also have a volt meter built into my Ham radio, and it was showing a constant 14 volts while the in dash meter was at zero. I was told it was either the cam or crankshaft position sensor (can't remember which).

I had it happen a couple times, but since the dealer never saw it happen while it was under warranty, and it hasn't happened in a long while, I never have replaced the sensor.

Good luck.

The alternator (voltage reg) is controlled by the ECM. For peace of mind I would check all the battery connections and the connections at the alternator. bg
