Archived 'check gauges' on 2001 CTD

Hi everybody- My step mom is on the road about 4 hours away and counting in her 2001 6-speed CTD. She said that the 'check gauges' idiot light is on and her voltmeter is all the way to the left.

1. Is there anything she should or shouldn't do (like shut it off!).

2. What causes this light to come on? (In case I can help her over the phone or to give her advise if she takes it in somewhere. )

3. Is there a way to check the codes on an '01 without a scanner?



I'm a 12V'er, so any help with the electronics is appreciated. Savin' me from driving all night is also.

codes can be checked by key on,on off on off dont start the engine codes will appear in the odometer window. tell us what comes up and someone will tell you what it means
