Thanks, TDR Staff

True or not, this is funny

Newbie Fuel question

I don't blame them either! I was about ready to puke, reading all the BS on this site about D/A before they were even on the road. There's three of them in our RV club now and the guys love them! Craig

:p Reading the thread, it seems like 50% of the contributers work for GM LOL!

My favorite two lines:

"How long does the dmax have to be out before it has proven itself to these guys?" Um, I'm not sure but I bet the answer is longer than one year.

"I've got over 6,000 miles with no problem. " Oh my! Well, that does it for me! A proven track record at best! :p

Dan

ROFLMAO

Until they get at least 500,000 miles on one it wont be proven to me. The reason I bought my dodge cummins was the reliability, I know several guys that have run over 500,000 miles with no major problems and I think thats what you call a proven truck. GM has a little reputation for letting the consumer be their test platform so I would buy one at least for a year. They might be the best truck since sliced bread but I can't live off bread alone I neeed some meat and that truck doesn't have any. It might be a good truck for my grandma. :D

The fact that the Duramax is causing such a stir among the Dodge Cummins crowd tells me that the Duramax is serious competition. Otherwise no one would give a rat's axx. I hope it turns out to be every bit as reliable as the hype would suggest. That way I'll have three good trucks to choose from when I go to buy my 4th Dodge Cummins. :D

Of course the Duramax is serious competiton!

Heck yes the Duramax is serious competition. And I'm happy for

GM that they finally have a good diesel engine and a good chassis

to put it in.

Some of the posts on the Duramax site are pretty biased, just

like some of the posters on our TDR site. No, I'm not suprised,

just thought it was interesting reading. :D

I tied into one last weekend. see thread

https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26574

And Joey D (6. 5 owner), you need to read more carefully and report the actual facts, and not embellish. I had estimated the load to be around 4000lbs not 5000. BTW hows your mileage? let me guess the only reason you have 4. 10's is because you tow sooooo much weight on a regular basis. how bout some dyno or track results? see my sig if you would like FACTS on mileage or HP. or email me and I will be glad to share my spreadsheet and reciepts with you.

Joey D, I would pull you silly, and then pull you, unwillingly, back to where you came from. next time I'll have the wife hang out the window and video the event, as we smoke its doors off. would that be enough proof for you? or should I get it hermetically sealed and notarized too :D

Pardon the above venting, I was not about to pay $19. 95 to reply to him over there, since I know he's reading this.

as for their comments, I concure. I agree with D Max-Man. I too would like to see proof of anything that is to be rumored to fail. and to-date, I have only HEARD of these supposed "head gasket failures". I also think that a healthy exchange of that or any other information is important. to possibly head off a problem with another owner, before they too have traveled that road. I think the TDR and its membership have done a good job of that here. and from that, we have learned the limitations and gotcha's associated with the use and modification of our trucks.

we have a member of our club here in Illinois Mark G. who has been wide open with his mods and trails and tribulations of his new 2001 Duramax/Allison. To date he has chipped it, put on a new highflow exhaust system and LP. I was quite impressed with his truck when it was stock. he turned out 240HP on the dyno STOCK. and even more now that he has tweaked it.

but, I still am not scared of it. I know, where he's weakest. and that, Joey D, is on the big end. sorry Mark. :D

BTW: have you noticed about half the new GM's have a light burned out already? I would like to be a DRL lightbulb salesman. LOL

I attended the 3rd Annual October Showdown and I did see a few Duramax trucks, but I also noticed that they were in the parking lot! All the trucks that hooked to the sled were either Dodge Cummins or Ford Powerstrokes. .

Todd,

1ST, read your own post again you wrote I was hauling 4000lbs of oak on a 16 ft trailer. Is that a special feather lite edition that weighs nothing? No it must weigh something so I estimated if it's incorect I am sorry. You could post the weight and then I will know.

2nd, My milage is good for the way I drive. Around town I get 14-15 and on the highway I get 17-18 driving 75-80 mph.

I never compared my truck to yours I just replied THAT I DOUBT WHAT YOU WROTE. Thats my opinion and I believe I am entitled to it the same as you.

Any time you want to pull me silly or what ever you like to call it come to mass and we will chain them together and have a go at it. Like you I won't be afraid.

Lastly I got 4. 10 gears in my truck because I have always had 4. 10's in any truck I bought new. This was my first diesel and did not know I shoud have got the 3. 73 for my style of driving. Many members hear say 4. 10's are the way to go so what's your point.

It was a Duramax Steve, lets not go there.

they do smoke, go see for yourself. :D

Joe, your right you are intitled to an opinion, we all are. but to call a person a liar is a little bit stronger, than an opinion.

I do not need to embellish nor do I lie. this truck came on the highway deliberatly to race me and he got one. he was also given two more tries to redeam himself and couldnt. whether or not it was do to him being in a new truck or whatever the reason he cannot contest the fact that he lost that day, three times in a row, and with a rather large doss of shame to go with it, considering what he was challenging.

I was proud of that fact and so I posted it here. and as far as the weight of that load, like you I guessed at it. but instead I factored in the wieght of the trailer. (around 1200lbs) and it was 2 and half cords of firewood on it, not knowing the size and density per cubic foot of every log on it, I guessed.

I would not tie my truck to yours or anyone elses. I dont treat it that way. I can vouch for my claims however with dyno runs and then there's always a good ol' fashioned street race :D

Todd, Did the other guy know you were racing? I also never bashed your truck, but you felt you needed to make your self feel better by bashing mine, I am not losing any sleep over it I drive what I like you drive what you like.

The trailer weight was something you wrote and thats what I went by, no big deal. Guys from the GM web site also say that the trucks don't smoke and plenty of those guys drive D-Max trucks. I also said a doubt what you said I didn't call you a lier but I guess if anyone disagre's with something someone else says they are calling them a liar indirectly. Lets have fun, thats what this is about anyway right.

Todd T, You should really try hooking up back to back with some one. It's great fun to see the look on the other guys face:eek: when you pull him backwards in a circle. Never pulled a Cheby but did a ford one night. :)

FYI; fords have a great 2wd systems instead of a 4wd one. :D

Big D

Joe, i am not holding any grudges. :D the whole point behind this thread was that the GM guys are reading our posts.

and they themselves have said they dont appreciate someone (non-paying members) coming to their site and starting crap. I posted, what I posted within my own ranks (here on the TDR). YOU, then took that and ad-libbed it on the GM site contesting what I have posted, along with others like it. its obvious you read my original post but i dont see where you inquired about it in there.

if you have ever owned or ridden in a truck that has been uprated to the degree that mine has. you could easily comprehend how I was able to do it. YES, he knew what he was doing, him being the instigator of the race. granted, I had an advantage that consisted of a combination of things, ranging from his truck beeing new (or at least had no plates yet) to the fact that I have uprated my truck to a degree that I can very safely claim to have 330 to 350HP AT THE REAR TIRES. I will now appologize to you for loosing my marbles, and attacking you personally. "I am sorry" ;)

In the future, lets address our differences in the context they are in, and not smear tidbits all over the web and poke fun. I dont appreciate it, and from what I have read the members (your brotherin) of the GM site dont either.

enough said, have a great day :D
