Well I had mentioned this at the bottom of another thread a week or so ago and probably not very many saw it, but I recently BOMBed my stock valve cover and pitched the silly faux plastic cover to make it look a lot better than stock. I chopped off the studs for the plastic cover bolts and Dave Meheen (Diesel Power Products) let me use their equipment to machine it smooth (thanks Dave!). I massaged it with a palm sander and by hand, and then painted it. I did the lower girdle too, it was easy to remove.

While I was at this project I installed the new ATS manifold which also got smoothed over a little and a coat of Por-20 exhaust manifold paint. And the Piersified 3G turbo went on too, with a little Por-20 as well.

<---------- Take a look at my Readers' Rigs album, I just added some more pics last night :)

Nice work Vaughn, I need to find the time to get on my project. Would like to meet you sometime since were almost neighbors. Gary

I'd like to know as well. I'm ordering an ATS manifold soon, and I like the looks of the paint. I wonder how well it will hold up.

Vaughn,

That looks sweet ;) ... what does the ATS do for you, better preformance or lower ETG? Looks nice great job, I have a power coating system and was thinking about trying to touch up the engine compartment a little also.

Looks great,

Dave

Thanks for the comments :) Put a fair amount of hard work into it :D

RAMN4ERV yeah we oughta meet up, you should join www.nwbombers.com if you haven't checked it out yet, we have a very active NW group. Sometimes we've had get-togethers in the Tri-Cities, I haven't seen too many people from Yakima tho.

DaveMorris I can't really tell how much impact the ATS had by itself, I put it on the same time as the Piers turbo. Together they make quite a noticeably difference. My truck is running awfully good right now. Read about it on this thread: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=94057

TBrennan & Jeff I bought the paint at a local paint shop, I used less than 1/2 of an 8 oz can to put 2 coats on everything. I forget what I paid exactly, $13 I think. Check around for automotive paint suppliers (call body shops for references). It has been holding up very well so far (900 miles).

I found Por-20 on a website and it says it is good for up to 1400 degrees. Is that enough for the exhaust manifold and exhaust side of the turbo? I looked at Jet Hot and HPC and the nice chrome-like finish they offer is only good to 1200 degrees. They have a high temp coating good to 2000 degrees, but they only come in flat colors. If the Por-20 @ 1400 degrees is enough, I'll go that way.

Nice touch for sure. Kind of off subject but what is the story on the shifter? How much was it and where can I get one?

That does look nice Vaughn - wish I'd had a chance to talk with you more at Robs. You gotta do something about that tin foil though buddy:p

Wow that really cleaned up the looks of the engine!!!!

It's too bad we can't do something about vent on top.

Was the manifold worth any power?

Nice Vaughn,

I was actually thinking about doing the same thing (ie. machining off the studs, etc) although I was thinking about polishing the VC. Looking at yours, I think painting looks good and would be alot easier. Anything looks better than that POS plastic cover.
