I just replaced my lift pump and then had my VP44 replaced. Still seeing some blue smoke. Dealer looked at it and said no problems found (try some injector cleaner which I did). I read some threads that indicate that the blue smoke could be a bad spray pattern or even a plugged injector. What is the normal life expectancy of the injectors and are the injectors something fairly easy to check or replace?

how many miles on your current injectors? The injectors have quite a long life span well over 100K

New improved (higher hp) injectors add a lot of :D

I just bought a set of used 275 injectors. I took them to a diesel fuel injection Co. and for $18. 00 they pop tested, checked flow and spray pattern and supplied me with new rubber o-rings and copper washers. Call first as some places don't have the equipment to check. One place even said that it was not good to use used injectors. He also could not check out used ones. He did say he could sell me new ones(275) for $150. 00 each which is about double the cost if you shop around for them. No problems other than clutch now slips and South Bend on the way

Diesel injector tester. They insert the injector in this device and check the pressure that it "pops" (releases fuel) and look at the spray pattern.
