I'm getting ready for a upcoming trip, not to mention doing some 200k maintenance. Everything was going fine until Sunday night... start the truck, no FASS whine??

I have one of the newer FASS, with the internal brushes... so I was dreading the worse. But I checked the basics... the FASS wiring is top notch, all weatherproof EXCEPT for the relay socket. I found the relay contacts had corroded!

After cleaning the terminals, everything is back to normal. The one thing that sucks is the fact that if the relay disengages, the included low pressure light will not illuminate either (which is not something that is common).

They are not a "must" for a 3rd gen.

Sounds like if the low pressure light does not work when relay's not working, a secondary check of fuel pressure is needed to prevent expensive repairs. Gauges are not that expensive to protect a costly repair. Just my 2 cents.

I have a gauge, under-hood. And if you read up on the 3rd gen trucks, you would know they are not affected like a 2nd gen...

Instead of nitpicking someone's setup, you should LOOK at the bigger picture... someone with a FASS is driving down the road, they lose fuel pressure, what do they check??? I'll bet some people on here don't even know they have *a* relay... let alone several that are factory installed. Not to mention the FASS fuse, etc.

First of all, I'm not nitpicking someone's setup. Just expressing my opinion and my 58 years of experience. If you don;t like it, flame someone else cause I'm not buying it. One person's opinion verses another. Take it for what it is, and keep your personal shortcomings to your self. Have a nice day. Tom

I apologize to all members reading this as I thought someone would find it useful.

I wrongly assumed posting something that happened to me, with the intent of preventing someone else from being stranded, would be a good idea. It won't happen again.

The loss of the lift pump feeding a CP3 on a 3rd gen is not harmful like it is to a VP44. A fuel pressure gauge is still a good troubleshooting tool, even on a 3rd gen, I should probably get one.

Nice catch steved, relays are often overlooked, and folks end up purchasing the wrong item instead of what they really need. I witnessed this plenty while in the HVAC industry.
