Just picked up the following from GMC-Diesel.com:
"I just acquired this 2002 4X4 Ext. Duramax with Allison. 54K. Miles. Also I plan to tow sometimes, but not too much weight (under 10K. ) pounds. Now I've heard a lot about upgrading my Duramax. But from what I've heard It can do a lot of damage and should only be used if you plan on getting rid of your truck at about 100K. Miles. I want to keep it for along time. So, to get to my point, what if any upgrades should I invest in and in what order. "
