i spent about 1/2 hour fixing this thing the other night. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CHECKING YOURS. below are two pics, the (hopefully) first, with big arrow shows what i'm talking about. the second, with squiggly line shows where the thing i fixed is.

so, that whole lever thing had been bothering me for a while. i had about 1/2" slop towards/away from the engine. finally had enough and took it apart. to do that, i popped the cable off, popped the ball end throttle linkage off, and on the engine side of the squiggly line there is a little hairpin looking thing that holds the shaft in place, took that off and promptly lost it until i was done. it's springy! then, just slide it out. i found very small remnants of a plastic bushing in there and some bad wear on the shaft that rotates every time you depress the go pedal. the inner diameter of where the shaft rides is 3/8", and i figured the shaft to be real close to 5/16, with mine being worn by about a shy 1/16" on one end. so i took a piece of 3/8" rod 2 inches long and attempted to drill a 5/16" hole through it. i ended up popping out about 3/4 of the way down. turned out that it fit the wear mark perfectly. i had to lightly tap it in with a hammer, and i guarantee that it's better than stock now.

now for the good stuff. i gained at least 3/8" throttle travel, maybe 1/2" kinda hard to tell though. AND, the response time is much better now. AND, i'm only using about 1/4" of pedal to cruise at 65mph. anyway, get out there and wiggle that thing.

 You had me scared there for a minute. Then I looked at your sig and seen you drive one of those over geared trucks. :-laf :-laf

I'll look at my linkage tomorrow. I just hope I don't stick to the hood. They are calling for single number temps tomorrow. :(

yeah mine is having issues but it still works well. Mine just needs adjustment not a bushing as neer as I can tell

Chainsaw

Yup ! Mine has the EXACT same problem. Tried to get a new one from the ... . ehemm dealer, and got the deer in headlight syndrome. Mine is REALY worn. but at 429K guess I should expect it. Now about that repair ..... hows that go again ?

would you like me to re word it?? my truck has somewhere around 400k, so i'm sure it going to be more of a problem for us "well used" guys. if i can make it more clear, please let me know.

With over 400k miles...

swankmetal, and markha1, I'll check my throttle bell in the morning. Tell me more about the repairs, and replacements you have made on your trucks with 400k+ miles. I hope to have my truck with that kind of mileage, starting up every morning, and getting me home every night Oo. A list of stuff done would be good, with approximate mileage. I do have a few bugs in my ... Bird right now

Thanks in advance for any experiences, and advice. Have a safe and insane :-laf Holiday Season, Patrick.

Unless the parts are longer to be had , I got all the parts to rebuild mine about two years ago . You can buy every piece and make a new one but I dont think you can buy the whole thing .

Good post 'Swank... if you have part numbers and/or suppliers please post them here and also in the "parts" forum for future reference of our guys...

MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!

pastor bob... .

no part #'s on that one. the only thing i did was add my homemade sleeve. are you talking about discontinued parts, PB?

bluebird, i haven't done too much to the truck. mostly engine work. one of the first things i did was put a smaller exhaust housing on. upon inspection, the stocker had a couple cracks. recently pulled the head and did a valve job. wasn't necessary, but worthwhile. i've got a tie rod end sitting in the shop waiting to go in. my front driveline is out waiting to get rebuilt (the knuckle between the u-joints is shot). lets see, what else. oh yeah, new clutch. intercooler boots.

as far as mileage, i haven't the slightest clue. my odometer was broken when i bought the thing. at just under 300k. looking at the old maintenance records, i'm guessing i've got over 4, maybe close to 5 by now. hope this helps.
