check trailer brake system

truck ran great all day. after an hour shut down, tried to remote start and nothing happened. normally lights will flash twice before start. lights flashed once with no start. tried key fob with no start and message in evic which read check trailer brake system. had hitch in receiver from previous weekend towing of travel trailer. removed hitch and truck started. now cel is on. waiting for code reader to read code. thanks in advance to anyone who has an idea what caused this

Strange..............my truck has said the same thing when connected to trailers with poor electrical systems (grounded wires) but never exhibited any starting issues.....maybe a coincidence but I'm sure a more educated party will respond?

I cannot help with the CEL but I have a question for you. I just purchased a new truck from Cole in SLO. Have you used them for warranty work and were they good/knowledgable to deal with? This a question more for referral purchases than using them because I am 240 miles away. Thanks...

MJWehrich; I have not used them. I got my truck in Idaho. I took it to them to do the N49 recall & there is over 60 trucks ahead of me. So I'm going to do it when I get back to Idaho. Take care Ron
