Heres the subject. . does anyone have OPTIMA red top batteries. if so this sounds great because there CCA is 1000, "cold cranking amps" im wondering if anyone has them and can tell a difference in them. my problem is, is that since i replaced them with redtops i also did pump modifications like had the pin turned once. so you have to crack the throttle to start it. i figured with these batteries it would start faster??? y does it not start as fast now? someone give me the perfect starting method.

I have the blue tops that are basically the red tops with different connectors on top. The truck cranks just as fast as it did with the old batteries. I would suspect that either you don't have good connections on the batteries or your pump mods are causing the slower starting. What is your idle at? Usually when throttle is required, the idle is a little low. It should be at 850 or so with the truck in drive and the ac on. Even then, some people still need to give it a little throttle on cold starts.

I am using the Odyssey dry cells. So far no problems. Really turns the engine over, course takes only one rev before it fires.

I always press the "go pedal" 1/2 inch when cranking. Cranks within 1-2 revolutions. Keeps the starter from wearing out.

Grids disconnected. Stock p-7100 other than minor star-wheel adj.
