One of my rear brakes started to squeak for a few seconds after I applied the brakes and had removed my foot from the brake pedal. So I removed the pads this weekend and one of the pads was seperating from the mounting metal portion of the pad. These are original pads with 90k on them. The seperation was severe and would have eventually totally seperated from the base metal. One of the other pads showed signs of also seperating. I replaced all rear with new OEM pads. I will tear off the fronts next weekend to see if the same is happening. I seem to recall threads on this years ago so I want to remind all 2001 owners if you have the original rear pads you better look at them. I can only imagine what happens when it totally seperates.

Same thing happened on my truck too. Looked in the drive and there was a hunk of brake pad. Pulled the wheel off and the pad delaminated from the backer. That was at about 80k.

Was it only your rear pads or the front pads also? I am thinking that this is a rear pad problem since the front pads look completely different from the rear pads?

mine was only the rears. I had changed my fronts about 5k prior to the rears and they were fine. Not sure why the rears did/do it.

Just did the same thing over the winter. 75k and the pads still had life to them, just came off the backing plate. Fronts were due.
