Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) throttle problems

Truck has a big problem with cold starts and smoke. Runs fine when warmed up. Each cylinder measured around 460 to 480 psi. This was done stone cold as it runs fine when it is hot.



Do these number look about right.

Pretty sure the heaters are working. Smokes even when it is a little cold, like 50 to 60 degrees. Battery voltage indicates heater are working. Got the head off as I have been contributing anitfreeze to my oil. Suprise, head gasket looks fine. The mystery continues. Gonna take the head in tomorrow and have it tested. I think all that is left is timing or the VP44. Hmmm. Pretty sure I got the timing right after the rebuild. Another symptom is that I have blown out the side cover a couple of times. Hmmmm.

there is another post on here somewhere with the same problems as you and it turned out to be a VP44



i would also look at the IAT sensor and MAP
