83 Crew Conversion continued...

You know, i'm tired of seeing the duramax in old muscle cars and hardly ever a cummins. I have a 1969 Chevelle that i have been wondering what i should do with. It was either an insane 427 or cummins diesel. I have decided to take the diesel challenge. It will either be a loud 12 valve or a somewhat quieter 24 valve. I married into a chevy family and man are they all heated up that i'm going to "destroy" my car for a diesel, especially a cummins. Kind of ironic that i'm doing this to a chevy but i do love the look of this car and i don't have the heart to sell it for a '68 charger which i would have done the same to but. Anyway i will have before and after pics of how it all turns out. Will probably be a couple of years though.

What do you guys think?

It would definately be different and more power to you for doing it. I do like the sound of a well built small block or big block w/ a set of Flowmaster's though! My buddy and his dad both have '68 chevelles that I've helped them with here and there. I love those car's and hope to have a '67 someday! I like that body style! Good luck!

I would find a convertible frame or at least box the rails between the torque boxes. You will need a stronger rear like a Quick Performance 9" and probably aftermarket rear control arms. Stiffer high capacity springs in the front.

don't i know it guys. Reinforced frame, way stronger suspension front and rear. A rearend that can handle the power without blowing apart. Just thing after thing. It will be either an exciting project or i'll be ready to blow it up after so long. I'm pretty sure it will be fun though.

cummins chevelle

thats weird I am considering the same thing I am in the process of building a 496 big block for my 69 chevelle and I thought about doing a 24 valve stright pipe diesel but dont know if it will fit or not i be very interested in your process and everything I love to drop one in under a stock or 2" cowl hood. any info pleas let me know at -- email address removed --

To each his own, but I like high HP Chev. V/8s in Chevelles.

If it was a 3/4 ton pickup? Yes.

Cummins are made for hard work. What are you going to use all that torque for?

Good Luck, Ray
