Sheep or Red Neck?

PWC vs. Boat--this is not a poll!!!

Well it is new but an old idea. It is the 8,6,4. remember those they put in the Cadi's years ago. starts off as a V-8, then if you don't need the V-8 it turns into a V-6 or V-4. I read it in either Road and Track or something. They are going to put them in trucks this time. I was in line at the store and looked through the magizine. I am scared to ask, Whats next.

What an Idea

I've got it ! How about if ya' just buy a D-max and wait for it to blow a head gasket then you'll have a 6 or 4 cyl. engine. Just a thought :D

I remember those engines. IMHO I thought it was stupid then and I think it's the same now. Since a piston is at TDC every 45 degrees (a V-8 four-stroke fires every 90 degrees) how do you make six cylinders fire smoothly in a V-8. Four of the eight-yes, six... ..... I don't think so. Any thoughts??

Joe

They just started putting an inline '6' gasser in the new Trailblazer!!! What an idea a straight 6, wonder if a diesel would work in that configuration!!!!!!!!!!

Denny:D  :D

The new Chevy engine isn't going to be a 4-6-8, it's going to be a 4-8 for exactly the reason Papa Joe states. The real problem with the previous 4-6-8 was the electronics and we've come a LONG way with electronics in 20 years! You can see the details of this engine at http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/stories/gmctech/three3.html . I personally think it's a pretty good idea as long as all the bugs (or at least most of them) are worked out before release.

DC is working on the same concept, supposed to be in sevice by 2004 model year. Mercedes has been using this system for some time now, works well, can't really feel it change modes. To bad their not willing to play nice with the Chrysler division and are making them start from scratch.
