Martha Stewart this morning

Happy Birthday, merryman!

We have some friends with a newer model Chevy Surburban. Their problem is just driving down the road the vehicle will just die. After some time it will restart. According to the Chevy techs it was the fuel pump. Had that changed. Then it happened again. This time they were told the fuel filter. Had that changed. Now it is happening again.

Now I have heard of either the Yukon's or Tahoe's that once below a 1/4 of a tank the computer thinks it is out of fuel and will not start. This information from some other friends of ours who have one and was made aware of this from Chevrolet or GMC and it has happened to them.

So, any ideas?

Keep it above 1/4 tank and see if it stops. The trip computer doesn't make any sense to me as far as running goes... . but I work on Mercedes... . and alot of things don't make sense.

My wife has an 02 Sub and it starts fine all the way down to the bottom of the tank, even if the fuel light is on. That sounds like something electrical to me. One of the ladies that works for my wife has a late 90's Tahoe that did something like that. It wouldn't die going down the road, but starting it in the morning was hit-or-miss. I'll see her Tuesday and see if she can remeber what was replaced.

The fuel pump in our Suburban quit. The garage put in a new GMC pump and it failed a week later. Put in another and it ran fine until we traded it in on our Sequoia. Maybe the GMC pumps are even less reliabe than our lift pumps. You should tell your friends to have them change the pump again.

Our company 1998 GMC 2500 4x4 454 died last week. They pulled codes and it was an anti-theft module that was acting up. The truck wouldn't start 10 minutes after parking it. I checked fuses, relays, fuel pump was audible... still no start. Towed it. Once towed and off the hook, the thing started fine. I'm still not 100% convinced it was the anti-theft module. Part of me thinks vapor lock. It was below 1/4 tank when this happened.
